We're up to week 7 of the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week show. In my quest to use a new technique in each of these PAOTW videos, here I combine watercolor (dry brush), ball point pen and graphite pencil in an unusual order to create a mized media portrait painting of Clare Balding. The Sunday Art Show - Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week - Will Young

This week, I demonstrate an unusual technique to paint a portrait of Will Young for episode 5 of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Week. See the finished portrait painting here https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/will-young-portrait-painting-paotw-mypaotw-week-5-mike-jory.html I begin by doing fourteen, really quick (less than 10 minutes each) sketches of Will each with a different expression using just a brown sharpie marker pen and washes of sepia watercolor paint. Then, I create my finished portrait painting using the same technique but taking more time. Materials used: Brown Sharpie marker pen, Winsor & Newton sepia watercolour paint, synthetic brushes (large round mop and medium round), mixed media paper.
