The Sunday Art Show - Rame Head in Cornwall Painting - How to paint a stormy coastal scene
This week, we are down on the south coast of Cornwall on a very windy and stormy day, looking over Whitsand Bay to Rame Head and the ancient chapel that sits on the cliff top there. I use watercolor paints to create a range of textures in a multi-layered style to capture the flat, diffuse light that occurs in cloudy stormy weather in England. See the finished painting, 'Storm at Rame Head' https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/rame-head-cornwall-painting-mike-jory.html Other paintings featured in the video can be seen here: Pony and Foal - 'Shelter Me' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/pony-and-foal-mike-jory.html Belted Galloway Cows Painting - 'About To Rain' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/belted-galloway-cows-painting-about-to-rain-mike-jory.html 'The Golden Flock' - Colorful Sheep Art - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/the-golden-flock-colorful-sheep-art-mike-jory.html 'The Gloomy Sky' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/gloomy-overcast-cloudy-day-devon-rolling-hills-mike-jory.html 'Sunshine and Showers' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/rainy-day-in-devon-mike-jory.html 'Stormy Winter' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/devon-valley-landscape-painting-stormy-winter-mike-jory.html 'Evening Blues' - https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/dramatic-evening-sky-and-horizon-mike-jory.html Materials used this week: Daler-Rowney The Langton Watercolour paper (A2) rough 140 llb; Winsor and Newton Professional Watercolours: Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine Blue; Cerulean Blue; Burnt Umber; Cadmium Yellow; Synthetic Brushes: Round Mop; small round, round flat and square flat.

The Sunday Art Show - Belted Galloway Cows and Flowers Painting - Ten Hundred art prompt competition - I entered
This week, I enter a youtube art prompt competition run by US artist Ten Hundred, the prompt being "Reaching new heights". I decide to go surreal and paint some very loose impressionist flowers and plants using watercolor on a large canvas to paint en plein air an arrangement of intertwined flora. Then using watercolor marker pen and a touch of interactive acrylic, I add 5 belted galloway cows amongst the garden life, including one tiny cow atop the highest flower, hence "reaching new heights"!
