This week, I show you a really quick and fun technique that combines en plein air sharpie pen sketching with en plein air watercolour painting to create a cows in landscape impressionist painting with trees and hedges in the background. These rust red cattle, Red Poll breed were found in a field near Starcross in Devon.

In this video, I show you some watercolour techniques that allow me to paint a river scene including a distant landscape and boats on the water in about 30 minutes. In this week's video, I show you how to paint a horse and foal using interactive acrylic paint. This demo starts with an A2 sheet of mixed media paper and a pre-prepared outline drawing that I did with a burnt umber acrylic paint marker. Next I add a couple of wet in wet washes of acrylic paint to create a soft textured background. Following completion of the background, I show you how I approach painting the horse and foal using wet in wet techniques. 'Wembury Blue' - this acrylic painting was inspired by the view looking east from the rock pools of Wembury Beach on the south coast of Devon near Plymouth on a bright sunny day!

"Ready Steady" - This is an original acrylic painting on a new born lamb with its mother. The lamb is slightly unsteady on its feet but raring to go! This painting was inspired by visiting Lambing Sunday at Bicton College in Devon, UK.

UK-based painter Mike Jory has had one of his images published as a book cover thanks to promoting his art on the website RedBubble. Based in Australia, Redbubble provides artists from all over the world with a way to exhibit their work on the internet and thereby expand their audience. Artists can also sell their designs on a range of products including high-quality fine art prints.
A few months ago, USA-based publishing company Dufour Editions were seeking a cover image for their soon-to-be published book 'Bluebeard's Goat and Other Stories' by H.L. Mencken and came across Mike's painting 'Strike a Pose' on the Redbubble website. Painted using acrylics the image depicts a white goat looking back over its shoulder at the viewer and was inspired by some goats in Somerset in England.
Dufour Editions contacted Mike to obtain permission to use the image and the book, which is available through Barnes and Noble in the USA and on Amazon, has now been published complete with white goat!
